There are three main Technical Ratings which apply to Survivor’s luminaires for High Abuse and Correctional applications:
IK rating (International Standard IEC 62262:2002 and IEC 60068-2-75:2014) is the international standard which defines the degrees of protection against external mechanical impact provided by enclosures for electrical equipment.
Under this standard, Survivor’s range of luminaires are rated as a minimum of IK10. However, our IK10+ products are designed to withstand the toughest conditions and are tested beyond this standard until failure. Survivor products are tested to IK26 ensuring unfounded extended durability and high performance in extreme conditions.
The table below outlines the different classifications covered by the IK standard
IK CODE | IMPACT ENERGY (JOULES) | PROTECTED AGAINST |
---|---|---|
IK00 | – | no protection against any mechanical impact |
IK01 | 0.15 | 200g object dropped from 7.5cm in height |
IK02 | 0.20 | 200g object dropped from 10cm in height |
IK03 | 0.35 | 200g object dropped from 17.5cm in height |
IK04 | 0.50 | 200g object dropped from 25cm in height |
IK05 | 0.70 | 200g object dropped from 35cm in height |
IK06 | 1.00 | 500g object dropped from 20cm in height |
IK07 | 2.00 | 500g object dropped from 40cm in height |
IK08 | 5.00 | 1.7kg object dropped from 29.5cm height |
IK09 | 10.00 | 5kg object dropped from 20cm in height |
IK10 | 20.00 | 5kg object dropped from 40cm in height |
IK10+ | 50.00 | 10kg object dropped from 50cm in height |
IP rating (International Standard IEC 60529-1:2003) is the international standard which defines the degree of protection against intrusion, dust and water provided by mechanical casings and electrical enclosures. All Survivor Lighting products are manufactured and tested to IP66. An IP rating is made up of two digits, the following tables explains their meaning.
The first digit indicates the level of protection that the enclosure provides against access to hazardous parts (eg: electrical conductors, moving parts) and the ingress of solid foreign objects.
IP CODE | OBJECT SIZE PROTECTED AGAINST | EFFECTIVE AGAINST |
---|---|---|
IP0_ | – | No protection against contact and ingress of objects |
IP1_ | > 50 mm | Any large surface of the body (back of hand) but no protection for deliberate contact with a body part |
IP2_ | > 12.5 mm | Fingers or similar objects |
IP3_ | > 2.5 mm | Tools, thick wires, etc |
IP4_ | > 1 mm | Most wires, screws, etc |
IP5_ | dust protected | Ingress of dust is not entirely prevented, but it must not enter in sufficient quantity to interfere with the satisfactory operation of the equipment; complete protection against contact |
IP6_ | dust tight | No ingress of dust; complete protection against contact |
Protection of the equipment inside the enclosure against harmful ingress of water.
IP CODE | OBJECT SIZE PROTECTED AGAINST | EFFECTIVE AGAINST |
---|---|---|
IP_0 | not protected | No protection |
IP_1 | dripping water | Dripping water (vertically falling drops) shall have no harmful effect |
IP_2 | dripping water when tilted up to 15° | Vertically dripping water is not harmful when enclosure is tilted up to a 15° angle from its normal position |
IP_3 | spraying water | Water falling as a spray at any angle up to 60° from the vertical shall have no harmful effect |
IP_4 | splashing water | Water splashing against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effect |
IP_5 | water jets | Water projected by a nozzle against enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects |
IP_6 | powerful water jets | Water projected in powerful jets against the enclosure from any direction shall have no harmful effects |
IP_7 | immersion up to 1m | Ingress of water in harmful quantity shall not be possible when the enclosure is immersed in water under defined conditions of pressure and time (up to 1 m of submersion) |
IP_8 | immersion beyond 1m | Equipment suitable for continuous immersion in water under conditions specified by the manufacturer |
Anti Tamper (AT) rating is the rating system developed by Survivor which outlines the degrees of protection against systematic tampering provided by the external fasteners which secure access to luminaires. The system is rated from 1 through 10+, with 10+ providing the highest level of protection.
Under the AT rating system, Survivor’s range of luminaires are rated as a minimum of AT06. However, if a greater level of security is required, Survivor are able to provide fasteners which are designed to withstand higher levels of systematic tampering.
The table below outlines the different levels covered by the AT rating system
AT CODE | PROTECTION |
---|---|
AT01 | no security clip or fastener |
AT02 | security clip only – no tool required for access |
AT03 | phillips or slotted head – readily available tool required for access |
AT04 | hex head – readily available tool required for access |
AT05 | torx head – non standard tool required for access |
AT06 | security torx fastener – non standard tool required for access |
AT07 | tri-lobe security fastener – non standard tool required for access |
AT08 | snake eye security fastener – tool not readily available |
AT09 | penta-drive security fastener – tool not readily available |
AT10 | key-lok security fastener – custom tool only available to Survivor customers |
AT10+ | custom key-lok security fastener – custom tool individually registered to customer |
Having the toughest luminaire in the world is of no benefit if inferior fasteners are used to protect it – it is like having an armoured car and leaving the keys in the door.
