HANNAH’S BAY, LAKE ROTORUA – LOCAL BEAUTY SPOT BRIGHTLY LIT FOR EVENING ACTIVITIES

Hannah’s Bay on the shores of Lake Rotorua is a delightful all mobility playground, with a horse bridle trail, a dog exercise area and a raised wheelchair-accessible walkway through the wetland area, which contains a regenerating Kahikatea forest.  The beach is popular for swimming, canoeing and windsurfing and has access lanes for jet-skis and water skiing, with a boat ramp and jetty.

This popular family park also provides large open spaces for recreational activities, BBQs, picnic tables, toilets and a children’s playground.

The brief was to Increase the lighting levels in the evening and early morning, to make the reserve feel safer to use after dark, but with an overall energy saving. Techlight brought their cutting edge LED technology to create a high level of light on the activity areas, walkways and the car parks at a substantial cost saving.

LEDin:  Using LEDin  Luminaires, mounted on PL7 Poles, and automatic dimming of the luminaires after midnight we achieved energy saving of more than 35% together with approximately 20% increase in light.

Result: The evening we went to photograph Hannah’s Bay at night, we found a group of cyclists taking in the view across to Rotorua  and a family eating fish and chips at one of the picnic tables. Not bad for 9pm.
